It has been a while since my last blog. I have continued to do well with healthy eating. I need to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, but the longer I go without snacking on unhealthy foods, the easier it becomes. I am not losing weight very fast, but it is slowly coming off.
My father passed away last week on his 63rd wedding anniversary. I spend a lot of time the few days prior with him and a few days after with my family. I didn't do well with my exercise, but I was where I needed to be. Dad was always trying to stay physically fit. He always worked hard when he was employed, and did all he could to stay fit afterwards. He always ate his 5 fruits and veggies every day. He never used a salt shaker after he was diagnosed with hypertension. He had Parkinson's disease, and he spent time every day walking around the neighborhood. When the weather was bad, he had a treadmill in his living room that he got on faithfully. As his mobility continued to decline, he still got on his treadmill for short time spans several times a day. He died on the 24th of July, but he was on that treadmill for as long as he could go (1 minute) on the 19th.
He set an incredible example for me that I will try hard to make a part of my life. He was a wonderful man that tried hard to stay healthy for as long as he could.
The 100 Day Heart Challenge is a wonderful program that is teaching me healthy habits. I am very greatful to Intermountain Healthcare and those in the USR who make it possible. I am back on track and committed to do what I can to improve my health and heart. Thank you!
Dr Jill, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Losing somone who is so dear to you is very difficult. I'm sure that your father is so proud of the way you are taking control of your health and doing what you need to do to be healthy. With his example for inspiration I know that you will be healthier and successful in all that you do. May you have continued success and comfort in you times of need.
