The first three weeks

Honestly the first 18 of the 100 days have been surprisingly great.  Everyone has been so supportive and encouraging.  The other people who are going through this me are remarkable individuals and I am inspired by watching them.  Our trainers and dietician are the best.  What's not to like?   This is a remarkable opportunity and I am grateful to have been one of the lucky few the computer "spit out".
As a child and teen I was always underweight and very self-conscious about it.  I was often teased.  (I know, it is hard to believe!).  My husband was also extremely thin, so we began our married life eating away at whatever foods we desired.   Unfortunatly we continued with those eating habits and they caught up with us.  After we both got desk jobs, the pounds starting piling on, but our eating habits didn't change.
I now find myself obese and flabby--two things I never thought would be me.  But, I am in charge and I can make positive changes that will help me become healthier and more fit.
I thought the healthy eating would be the hardest part for me.  I usually don't do too bad at work, it is when I walk in the door at night that the grazing begins.  I could outdo any gazelle out on the tundra.  Crunch, crunch, crunch.  If you could be fit from continious jaw motions, I would have 8% body fat.
Since I started eating healthy on June 11th, it has actually gotten easier.   The longer I am eating healthier, the less my cravings for chocolate, cookies and the like become.
The exercise part has been harder for me.   I really hadn't done anything you could call exercise for 4 years.  Taking my dogs up and down the stairs to go outside was about the extent of it.  Kelsey, my personal trainer, has been very patient with me and has tailored all of my exercises for the wimp level.  I have now worked so hard I am at the wimp + level.  Tuesday she had be lie on my stomach on the floor.  She said "rest your elbows and arms on the floor, push off with your toes and raise your tush into the air."   I tried and tried but that almost 200 pound butt was not going anywhere.   I thought, come on, you can do this, but it wouldn't budge.   I smugly thought that her butt was probably only about 105 pounds, so of course it was much easier for her.   She promptly had me roll over and tried a different version of the same thing.   To my embarrassment, it still wouldn't budge.    I hope no one was looking.   Kelsey signed and moved on to another "wimp" level exercise.
The best part was, no yelling like you see on "The Biggest Loser".  All she did was continue to encourage and praise. I guess what matters is that you try your best everytime and continue to progress.
Thanks to those of you who practice healthy habits every day. You are my heroes.   But to those of you who are in the same boat and are making positive changes in your lives, you are my inspiration.  Thanks to all of you for making this experience a positive one for me.

  1. I'll bet that if you look back on the last three weeks you can do a lot more than you ever thought you could. Mr. Abraham Lincoln said,
" My great concern is not wheather you have failed, but wheather you are content with your failure." My personal defination of failure is when we don't try at all. Your trying so you are successful. Keep it up and you'll soon see how much stronger you will be. YOU CAN DO THIS.
